A pub which is not a pub

The Plough Ruislip 7
The Plough is on the main road out of Ruislip towards Ickenham, on Bury Street. You only have to look at the building to realise that parts of it are very old, whilst other additions are newer. Once a Bernie Inn, see a menu below.

It is actually a restaurant ONLY and you can no longer just nip in for a pint (correct 2020).

Where it is, by road

On Bury Street. From the roundabout at the bottom of Ruislip High Street take the exit signed to Harefield/Rickmansworth. The Plough may be found along here on the right after about one mile. It is set back from the road and quite tricky to spot.

I had a Friday and Sunday night job there 1973-75 when it was a Berni Inn. I started in the kitchen washing up as I was under 18( no commercial dishwashing machines then). All waste food went into large dustbins in the kitchen that were taken away for pig swill! I used to fill a decent sized plastic food tub on every shift with steak that came back off plates - the family dog soon learnt that I came home with steak and would wait up behind the front door ! Later I worked behind the restaurant bar. Oh the skill required to make a floating coffee!! Mick Tucker from The Sweet would regularly eat in there with his wife. A good bunch of staff.

It was a very small pub when my pals and I played darts there every Friday evening. One had to stand in a small hole in the floor to play darts to avoid the darts hitting the ceiling. Those were the days, happy days.
