Broadwood School Ruislip

Broadwood School | 8 Kingsend Ruislip

(Opening comments from a Ruislip, Northwood & Eastcote Local History Society publication from 1992)

BROADWOOD SCHOOL: 8 Kingsend, Ruislip

This school seems to have been established sometime during the 1940s, the exact date is unknown. The Ruislip Chamber of Commerce guide of 1948 lists it as a kindergarten for children aged three to nine. Older children did, however, also attend the school.

The principal was given as Mrs. A. C. Beverly, and she seems to have continued as such for the remainder of the school's life.

It appears that Broadwood School closed about 1960.

My parents moved me from the Bourne School in Station Approach South Ruislip to Broadwood School about 1955.

It was fee paying and had less than 40 pupils. It was run by Mrs Beverly and her daughter who came from Golspie in Scotland.
They hosted summer trips at their Golspie home.

The school closed in about about 1958, allegedly due to structural issues with the building (large domestic house). The uniform was dark brown blazer with yellow stripes and plain brown shorts (skirts for the girls). Teaching standards weren't bad because the class sizes were so small.
